American Foundation for Suicide Prevention: New Haven County Walk to Fight Suicide

AFSP’s Walk to Fight Suicide gives people the courage to open up about their own connections to the cause, and a platform to create a culture that’s smarter about mental health. Friends, family members, neighbors and coworkers walk side-by-side, supporting each other and in memory of those we’ve lost throughout New Haven County.

The Columbia Protocol, also known as the Columbia-Suicide Severity Rating Scale (C-SSRS), supports suicide risk screening through a series of simple, plain-language questions that anyone can ask.

You will learn how to screen with the C-SSRS to identify at-risk individuals and the types of suicidal ideation.

This presentation will cover what we know about mental health and suicide, the most up-to-date research on prevention, and what we can all do to help save lives.

You will learn common risk factors and warning signs in Black and African American communities, as well as how to keep ourselves, our loves ones and those in our community safe.

Research has shown suicide to be a leading cause of death for people with autism. This 3-part series will cover the warning signs, unique risk factors, statistics of suicide, and how to be culturally aware when working with this population. People with autism think, communicate, and experience the world differently. This series will describe five autism-specific resources to use in supporting these individuals around suicide prevention and crisis support.

The event which takes place on the New Haven Green from 12 PM - 3 PM is dedicated to bringing the community together to remember those we’ve lost to overdose, to spread hope to those impacted and to connect residents to a range of treatment, harm reduction, and other support services.

Valley Prevention Council Meeting

The next meeting of the Valley Prevention Council (Valley Opioid Task Force) will be held at the Ansonia site of the Boys & Girls Club (28 Howard Avenue) on August 28,2024 at 11:00 am.

  • How to utilize best practices to identify suicidal ideation and behavior with precision

  • Types of suicidal ideation and the four behaviors that are predictive of imminent risk

CT Suicide Advisory Board meeting

Mission: The CTSAB is a network of diverse advocates, educators and leaders concerned with addressing the problem of suicide with a focus on prevention, intervention, and health and wellness promotion.

Vision: The CTSAB seeks to eliminate suicide by instilling hope across the lifespan.  The CTSAB developed and is responsible for activating the state plan, leads the state campaign that promotes the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline and the CT Zero Suicide Initiative, and advises state agencies on the use of their suicide-related state and federal dollars from the Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and Health Resources & Services Administration.
